Bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger’s conduct in public has been flawless for the most part throughout his public life. The 75-year-old icon carefully chooses his words and tries to spread nothing but positivity and knowledge. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons why he managed to excel in various domains such as bodybuilding, acting, politics, and activism. However, the slightest error of judgment can cause a stir when you are as famous and influential as Arnold Schwarzenegger. The 7-time Mr. Olympia faced the wrath of bodybuilding fans and the general populace for the now infamous ‘screw your freedom’ remark during the height of the global Covid-19 pandemic. He has now apologized for the words.

The rapidly spreading Covid-19 pandemic was unlike any challenge faced by people in recent memory. However, the global community was split on its severity and the ways to tackle it. Social distancing and wearing masks were two widely accepted methods to curb the spread. However, many people saw its compulsion as a means to curb their freedom. While speaking to CNN during an August 2021 interview, Arnold Schwarzenegger slammed the people that saw masks as a means to curb their freedom rather than a method to avoid the spread and said ‘screw your freedom’. The comment drew a lot of negative publicity to the Terminator star and it created a stir.

Schwarzenegger was not only recognized for his impressive muscular physique, but also for his captivating personality and excellent public speaking skills. His lead role in the famous 1977 documentary-drama “Pumping Iron” played a significant role in popularizing the sport of bodybuilding.

Arnold Schwarzenegger apologizes for the remark

More than an extremely successful bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a student of this craft and has earned vast stores of knowledge over the years. Recently, he started the Pump Club podcast that has become popular in a very short time. A fan appreciated Arnold’s podcast and showed his appreciation towards it in a Tweet. Another Twitter user commented on this Tweet:

“I want to check this out but I have a hard time getting over Arnold ‘f*** your freedom’ Schwarzenegger.

Arnie took the criticism in a positive way and attempted replied to the comment on Twitter saying:

“I want to thank you for your open-mindedness. I think we should be able to disagree without being enemies.

Here’s what else I’ll say: I’m sorry for saying those words. I try to be relentlessly positive, but sometimes my mouth gets ahead of me. I should have communicated better.”

The communication sparked a long conversation supporting both sides. One user appreciated Arnold’s thoughts on disagreeing without being enemies and wrote:

“The world would be an objectively better place if just 10 percent more of the population followed this sentiment.”

While a lot of people posted serious comments criticizing and appreciating Arnold for his stance, one particular user gave a witty reply and said:

“Sometimes my mouth gets ahead of me.” – Hey (Arnold), are you me? But slightly more successful?”

Irrespective of the subsequent conversation that may take place on the topic, what matters is that Arnold Schwarzenegger has taken all the criticism positively and responded in the most sincere way possible.
